Gender Discrimination Laws

Significant abuses women sometimes experience prior to being hired involve being asked illegal questions during job interviews and exposure to subtle forms of sex discrimination, job misrepresentation, phony employment schemes, and problems with employment agencies. Discrimination in employment based on gender, as well as on race, national origin, religion, age, and disability is prohibited by numerous state and federal laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, among other laws. These laws protect women from discrimination during various stages of the pre-employment selection process including screening and job requirements, responding to advertisements and brochures, and during the interview.
