GOV EMPLOYEES ENGAGING IN POLITICAL ACTIVITIES


As a government employee one has the rights to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed to every other citizen of the United States under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This means: · One may choose to use that freedom on own time and/or off the worksite. · One may possess political material at any time and may display and distribute it on own time off state property. · One may engage in political fund-raising activities on own time and/or off the worksite. · One may participate in voter registration activities on own time in non-work areas of worksite. · Because of the precedent that other state employees are allowed to display bumper stickers and license plate frames bearing a political message and park in state parking lots, One may do the same. · Political buttons, stickers and T-shirts may be worn by government workers on the job providing the workers have no direct contact with the public.
