Census Bureau Report on Disables UnemploymentMore recent Census Bureau reports reaffirm that persons with disabilities continue to face hurdles in the job market. According to the Census Bureau's report Americans with Disabilities: 1991-1992, the employment rate for persons without a disability is 80.5 percent. For those with a severe functional limitation, however, the employment rate is only 27.6 percent. In addition to having a higher unemployment rate, the earnings for those persons with disabilities who are employed is lower than that for the non-disabled workforce: - the mean earnings for persons who have no disability between the ages of 35 and 54 is $ 2,446 per month. - the mean earnings for persons in the same age range with a non-severe disability is $ 2,006 per month. - the mean earnings for those 35 to 54 with a severe disability is $ 1,562 per month. |
