ADA and Its Effect on FinanceAlthough persons with disabilities still lag behind other Americans in economic terms, a 1994 Harris poll found that a majority of disabled surveyed reported that their treatment had gotten better in the last decade. The Harris Survey found that 60 percent of those persons with disabilities surveyed said that in general ''things have changed'' for the better in the last 10 years, with only 15 percent saying that things had gotten worse. Improvements reported by persons with disabilities since 1990 included the following: - 75 percent reported better access to public facilities, such as restaurants, theaters, stores and museums; - 63 percent reported improved public attitudes about persons with disabilities; - 63 percent observed improvements in their quality of life; - 60 percent reported improved access to public transportation; and - 59 percent reported improvements by the media in the portrayal of persons with disabilities. |
